My Art Story

In the early 2000’s I was newly single and raising three teenagers. I discovered the salsa dancing community and made many new friends, people connected by their love of dance. A fellow dancer who was an art model encouraged me to do art modeling and I found my introduction to the local art scene. It didn’t take long before I became interested in being on the other side of the easel. This started my journey of sculpture classes and painting workshops. I discovered a love of figurative painting. I have been blessed with encouraging and talented teachers and mentors.

I am inspired by faces and usually surprised by what is revealed on the canvas. The challenge is to find more time to be in my studio, get out of my own way, and let the magic happen. Especially in these times, when we are feeling more separate, I find this work to be an expression of what we all share and feel, a way to connect to the divine, the raw, the real. I especially like the tactile feel of brushes and paints, an antidote to the technology driven world of today.
